عن الوظيفة
A large multipurpose marine terminal on Egypt's coast is hiring a Marine & Berth Operations Manager to lead all vessel, berth, equipment, and operator activity across its deep-water quay.
The role carries full accountability for berth productivity, vessel turnaround, equipment utilization, and the safety of every operation taking place at the waterside, 24 hours a day.Marine & Berth Operations
• Lead all marine and berth operations across the terminal's berths and quay — vessel berthing and unberthing, loading and discharge, and continuous 24/7 shift coverage.
• Own berth productivity and vessel turnaround time; review and approve vessel loading and discharge plans, and intervene decisively on deviations.
• Coordinate with the port authority, economic-zone authority, pilots, tugs, mooring teams, vessel masters, and shipping agents to secure safe and timely vessel handling.
• Monitor vessel draft, freeboard, mooring line condition, berth condition, and weather to authorize continuation or suspension of operations.
• Coordinate draft surveys, cargo surveys, and damage inspections with appointed inspection companies.
• Ensure a seamless interface between berth, yard and warehouse operations, planning, and truck movement so that cargo flow is never interrupted.
• Oversee handling campaigns for bulk cargo (cement, clinker, fertilizers, iron, grains), general cargo, and containers.Equipment & Operators
• Direct the deployment and utilization of terminal cranes, ship unloaders, mobile harbor equipment, hoppers, grabs, and cargo-handling gear across all vessel operations.
• Own equipment availability and productivity in partnership with Equipment Maintenance; escalate breakdowns and drive root-cause resolution rather than repeat repairs.
• Lead the crane operators, heavy equipment operators, and drivers population — certification, competency assessment, shift allocation, and performance management.
• Ensure every defect, on terminal equipment and on vessel cranes alike, is recorded, reported, and followed through to closure.
• Manage subcontracted stevedoring labour and service providers against agreed SLAs, productivity standards, and cost targets.HSE, Security & Compliance
• Champion a zero-harm safety culture and hold full accountability for HSE performance across all marine and berth areas.
• Ensure compliance with IMO and SOLAS standards, the ISPS Code, Egyptian maritime law, port authority regulations, and terminal standard operating procedures.
• Lead risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective action closure for all marine and berth operations.Performance, People & Systems
• Lead a large multi-level workforce of section heads, supervisors, team leaders, vessel operation representatives, and operators across rotating shifts; own manpower planning and shift rosters.
• Set, track, and act on operational KPIs: tons per hour, berth occupancy and productivity, crane utilization, vessel turnaround time, downtime, and overtime.
• Contribute to the terminal's operating budget, COGS control, and equipment capital expenditure planning.
• Support commercial and customer relationships by delivering reliable, predictable service to shipping lines and cargo owners.
• Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management;
MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is a plus.
• 12+ years in port or marine terminal operations, including at least 5 years leading marine and berth operations at managerial level in a multipurpose or bulk terminal.
• Proven experience in bulk cargo handling (cement, clinker, fertilizers, grains, iron) and the associated equipment.
• Solid command of berth planning, discharge and stowage planning, gang and equipment deployment, and continuous 24/7 shift operations.
• Strong working knowledge of the ISPS Code, IMO / SOLAS requirements, port authority procedures, and marine safety practice.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large blue-collar workforces and to manage subcontracted stevedoring labor effectively.
• Decisive under operational pressure, safety-first mindset, strong situational awareness, and credibility with both operational crews and clients.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Port Said; available to respond to operational escalations outside standard hours.
